Allowing children to plant seeds in pots or in the ground and encouraging them to observe over time the process of plant growth is a huge learning skill and helps teach basic science concepts with life experiences. As the seeds sprout, the children’s enthusiasm will increase, and their work will produce a visual outcome. This stage helps teach children the signs of when to water and give the plant nourishment, like how we are nourished through food. This also helps build responsibility skills.

Another way to teach about planting and growing is to use a nature walk to see plants in nature. Children can touch and see the plants. You can also take pictures of the nature walk to explore later in the classroom. Using a terrarium can also show an ecosystem and teach about the greenhouse effect which can help produce growth at a faster speed.
